What REALLY Grips My ****

*Inspired by Britmums Blog Prompt, my biggest pet peeve is_______ :)*

It's something that has come up quite regularly over the past few weeks and to be honest, I've been dying for an excuse to rant over it!

It's the REALLY USEFUL AND DEFINITELY RIGHT knowledge of other people, usually (but not always) backed up with "because Sue down the road knows this girl who's sister said..." or something along those lines.

Some people do this because they are old and their knowledge is out-dated. Some people are evil inside and say it just to contradict you, or whatever you are doing. Others are just thick. Sometimes it's a combination.

Here are some examples I've heard over the past few months that have rather pis annoyed me.

  1. I definitely did not have PND after the birth of Little Bear: because PND only lasts for a few days after giving birth. I should therefore stop feeling sorry for myself, do the washing up and have a bath.
  2. Pregnant women absolutely can take aspirin.
  3. Goldilocks is not autistic as professionals suspect because she is not a "stupid" child and her facial features are fine.
  4. Parenthood is purely "common sense" and any idiot can do it. (Said by someone who DOES NOT have children)
  5. Pregnant women cannot ever take paracetamol.
  6. You must NEVER tickle a baby's feet - it will give them a stutter.
  7. Vaseline should not be used for nappy rash because it is not good enough - you absolutely need Bepanthen or stronger.
  8. There is no such thing as MRSA - it's called MRS.
  9. A good way to get a child used to a potty is to put crisps and sweets in it and let them eat from it.
  10. Eating healthily consists of mainly roast dinners - but of course, she never eats chips!
  11. Children are only taught the phonetic alphabet in schools these days - because said person had apparently worked with an 18-year-old who only knew the phonetic alphabet.
The list goes on and on AND ON! Seriously - there are genuine misunderstandings and people do get things wrong. But if you're proven wrong you should -just- accept it! Not force-feed me one million reasons why you are right and the rest of the world (apart from Sue-from-down-the-road's friends sister) is wrong.

  1. Its very frustrating isn't it when people think they know it all. I find No3 interesting. Having a child myself on the autistic spectrum, you do get a lot of stick because they don't "look" autistic. What does an autistic child look like I wonder??

Sometimes, its just best to ignore those people and their advise from Sue down the road, whose friends sister....

  2. That comment about the potty made me spit my tea out. Hilarious.
