Pictures of the UK 2011 riots are everywhere and they have shocked the world. Like a virus it has spread across the country and so far not enough has been done to stop it. Us British do not generally like the idea of military in the streets and pictures of water cannons and baton rounds being used do shock us, but to many who are faced with the devastation of this week's riots are looking less harsh the more time goes on.
A lot of you will already have heard of the e-petition to axe the benefits of anybody involved in the riots, some of you may have signed it. How many of you have questioned its ignorance I wonder?
Of course we should suspend the benefits of the rioters. Of course they are all in receipt of benefits to begin with... hmmm. Oh wait. They might not be...
REALLY???
There should definitely be harsh penalties for anybody convicted of violent or disorderly crimes during the riots. Nobody is disagreeing with you there (although I do wonder how you can punish a 7 year old...). But taking their benefits away? Why just benefits - are the only people capable of rioting also in receipt of benefits?
I think the people making these assumptions are incredibly shallow and need to get a life, sharpish! Right now there are more important things for you to do than to turn this into a benefit-bashing slanging match.
Stop using the riots as an excuse to moan about the jobless and start supporting your country in it's time of need.
I am against the UK 2011 riots, regardless of the class, ethnicity, age or gender of the rioters and will not file them under any category other than "evil". I hope you do the same.
