The shocking news comes after a Frenchman was ordered to pay his ex-wife £8,500 in compensation for not giving her enough sex during their 21 year marriage following divorce on the same grounds.
The Frenchman cited "tiredness and health problems" as the reason for his lack of enthusiasm in the bedroom.
I can relate to both sides of the story. Sex when you're tired or poorly just doesn't cut it, your husband showing no interest in you is hell.
But how much sex is "not enough"?
The answer is obviously possible to judge. People have different priorities in relationships. These priorities change throughout the course of one's life, depending on circumstance. As the answer is impossible to judge then it should be impossible to rule that this woman deserves compensation, surely?
Not enough sex is enough grounds for a divorce, I might say. Lack of sex can make one feel unattractive and underappreciated. Some would even say it is a sign of infidelity. But £8,500 in compensation? Sure, 21 years is a long time (as long as I've currently been alive!) but why did it take her that long to file for divorce in the first place?
I honestly think that this ruling is absolutely ridiculous. If it was genuinely that painful to live through that it was worth several thousand pounds then surely she would have divorced him a long time before she did. Or is that just me - would you have been able to put up with 21 years of little or no bedroom activity?
Personally, I prefer my sex absolutely free of charge - whether I'm having it or not.
